Week 3 Chapter 1 Summary

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to information systems and highlights the significance of studying IT in today's interconnected world. It emphasises the concept of the continuous and increasing use of computer systems and the role of informed users in organisations. 

The chapter discusses managing information resources, IT infrastructure, and various types of organisational information systems, such as application and departmental information systems. It dives into the impact of IT on organisational employees, managers, and society as a whole, including opportunities and challenges.

Overall, it summarises the importance of being an informed user, different types of computer-based information systems (CBISs), and the influence of IT on manager and non-manager workers. 

The aspect in this particular lesson that caught my interest was section 1.1 Why should I study Information Systems? I find the relevancy in this section to be quite important as it explains the significance technology has had throughout our generations lives especially with our generation being “the most connected generation in history” Management Information Systems, (2014). The online world is only progressing forward which is why studying IT would be very beneficial, especially for us students, to keep up with the latest technology and to gain a competent skillset to offer the market.
